Afvalzorg has extensive experience in assisting (local) governments and authorities drafting guidelines and providing trainings and training material in order to stimulate a smooth transition towards a more sustainable waste management situation.
In addition to capacity building, or as a separate activity if required, Afvalzorg can assist in writing technical guidelines to set out local or national government directives/protocols aimed at reducing emissions of methane originating from landfills. We have written such guidelines for governments in Turkey, Fiji, Spain and Georgia, among others.
Setting up a comprehensive system for methane emission inventories of regions or countries can provide a lot of useful information about the contribution of landfills to greenhouse gas emissions in a region or country as a whole. A proper emission inventory is a useful tool to boost compliance with (inter)national CO2 emission mitigation goals such as the Paris Agreement. Hence, it also provides in-depth insight in methane emissions at individual landfills and helps in setting emission reduction priorities.
